Product information
Diabetes is a condition in which the body's level of blood sugar and the hormone insulin are out of balance. It is one of the most common diseases. Diabetes is a disease of metabolism, our body uses nutrients from food as carbohydrates for energy and growth.  Normally, your stomach and intestines digest the carbohydrates in your food and convert them into a sugar called glucose. Glucose is your body's main source of energy (1).  After digestion, the glucose moves into your blood to give your body energy. The pancreas makes a hormone called insulin which gets the glucose out of your blood and into the cells of your body. If you have diabetes, either your body doesn't make enough insulin, or your cells can't use the insulin. The glucose levels rise up in your blood, causing diabetes, otherwise known as high blood sugar. There are three types of diabetes (1).

Type 1, known as juvenile diabetes, it is a condition in which the pancreas does not make enough insulin.

Type 2 it develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin and the pancreas can no longer make enough insulin or it doesn't use the insulin properly to keep blood sugar levels in balance. It is also known as adult-onset.

Gestational diabetes which occurs in pregnant women only during pregnancy.

Common symptoms of diabetes are Unusual thirst, fatigue, frequent urination, extreme hunger, irritability, mood changes, cuts that are difficult and slow to heal, tingling/numbness in hands, and feet, blurred vision, frequent infections and for pregnant women, swelling in the hands and face and may also be symptoms of gestational diabetes (1).

Life On Diabet-Life Plus has a unique formula specially designed which help support Diabetes Management with its main ingredients as Chromium Picolinate, Omega 3, Cinnamon Extract, Fenugreek Seed Extract, and Gymnema Sylvestre Extract with added Magnesium Citrate.

Chromium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vanadyl Sulphate, Gymnema Sylvestre Extract, Cinnamon Extract and Fenugreek Seed Extract contribute towards playing a vital role in the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels whereas Magnesium contributes towards normal energy-yielding metabolism and EPA and DHA contribute to normal functioning of the heart.

Chromium plays an important in the body regulating blood sugar levels similar to Insulin. It is a hormone that our body uses to change sugar, starches, and other food into energy (2). The inability of insulin to control the utilisation and storage of glucose is called Insulin resistance. It is associated initially with elevated levels of circulating insulin followed by glucose intolerance which may progress to type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases (3).

Low Chromium levels can increase blood sugar, triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood), and cholesterol levels, and increase the risk for a number of conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease (2)

Chromium supplements help in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, it reduces blood sugar levels, as well as the amount of insulin (2). It has also been shown to be effective in improving glucose and insulin metabolism in women with gestational diabetes (5).
Chromium helps in Weight loss and obesity, Chromium is often used as a weight-loss aid and a way to improve lean muscle and reduce body fat, and help people lose weight and build muscle, plays an important role in strength training and is commonly found in sports nutrition supplements (2).

Chromium helps lower blood pressure, and lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, it also decreases the symptoms of depression in people with atypical depression (2).

Chromium supplementation on glucose and insulin metabolism also assessed the effects of such treatment on serum lipids (5).

Fenugreek extract helps in digestive problems such as loss of appetite, constipation, and inflammation of the stomach/Gastritis it is also used for conditions that affect the health of the heart like the hardening of arteries/atherosclerosis, and for high blood cholesterol and triglycerides levels (6).

Fenugreek extract inhibits the absorption of sugar from the gut to the blood to reduce blood sugar levels. It also has the effect of increasing the secretion of insulin from the Beta cells of the pancreas. Diosgenin, present in fenugreek improves glucose metabolism by promoting adipocyte differentiation and inhibiting inflammation in adipose tissue (6).

Gymnema Sylvestre extract has Gymnemic acids that act as antidiabetic, anti-sweetener, and anti-inflammatory activities. These Gymnemic acids delay the glucose absorption in the blood, the atomic arrangement of Gymnemic acid molecules is similar to that of glucose molecules. These molecules fill the receptor locations on the taste buds thereby preventing its activation by sugar molecules present in the food (8).

Cinnamon extract helps to improve blood glucose levels and increase insulin sensitivity. Cinnamon extract also has an anti-clotting effect on the blood, relieves pain in arthritis sufferers, Boost the body's immune system, stops medication-resistant yeast infections, helps in relieving indigestion, Reduces the proliferation of leukaemia and lymphoma cancer cells, preserves food by inhibiting bacterial growth and food spoilage, be a great source of vital nutrients, including calcium, fibre, manganese and iron (9).
