Blood is a bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to the cells. It transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells. One unit of blood contains three components red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and
 plasma. Blood cells are produced in bone marrow. Plasma carries blood cells and red blood cells carry oxygen (1).

A red blood cell has an important component known as haemoglobin, it is an iron-containing oxygen-transport metalloprotein(2).

Haemoglobin in general healthy adult are male: 13.8 to 17.2 grams per deciliter (g/dL), female: 12.1 to 15.1 g/dL (3).

Anemia is a condition that develops when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells or haemoglobin.
