Product information
Constipation is a condition in which food residue spends too long in the large intestine, too much water is absorbed and it becomes dry and difficult to pass. Lack of exercise
or fibre, stress or laxative abuse can lead to constipation (1).

Constipation also known as costiveness or dyschezia refers to bowel movements that are infrequent or hard to pass. Constipation is a common cause of painful defecation. Severe constipation includes obstipation (failure to pass stools or gas) and faecal impaction, which can progress to bowel obstruction and become life-threatening (2)

Constipation is a subjective symptom of various pathological conditions. Incidence of constipation fluctuates from 2 to 30% in the general population. Constipation of obstructed defecation may be due to mechanical causes or functional disorders of the anorectal region. Mechanical causes are related to morphological abnormalities of the anorectum (megarectum, rectal prolapse, rectocele, enterocele, neoplasms, stenosis). Functional disorders are associated with neurological disorders and dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscles or anorectal muscles (anismus, descending perineum syndrome, Hirschsprung's disease) (3).

Life On Laxi-Life is a perfect blend of sugar beet fibre (cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin) and lignin. This combination provides the perfect solution for the constipation problem. Sugar beet fibre, is produced from the sugar beet pulp obtained after extracting the sugar from the sugar beets, the polysaccharide composition of the sugar beet fibre, including pectin, hemicellulose and cellulose. Sugar beet fibre contains approximately 22% of the water soluble fibre pectin. Pectin is recognised for its potential to give health effects in the body, such as lowering blood cholesterol and levelling out the blood-glucose curve. An increased viscosity in the small intestine slows down the mixing and diffusion of intestinal contents (4).

Dietary fibre affects human large bowel function, causing an increase in stool output, dilution of colonic contents, a faster rate of passage through the gut and changes in the colonic metabolism of minerals, nitrogen and bile acids. Dietary fibre comprises plant cell wall polysaccharides and lignin. Fibre helps the gut undigested food to hold water within its cellular structure and facilitates in the easy passage of the digested food through intestine (5).

Sugar beets helps in Detoxification. Beets has betalin pigments which support your body's phase 2 detoxification process, it helps in breaking down toxins, which are bound to other molecules so they can be excreted from your body. Beets are valued for their support in detoxification and helping to purify your blood and your liver (6).
