Product information
Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells. The cells have lost normal control mechanisms and thus are able to expand continuously, invade adjacent tissues, migrate to distant parts of the body, and promote the growth of new blood vessels from which the cells derive nutrients. Cancerous (malignant) cells can develop from any tissue within the body. As cancerous cells grow and multiply, they form a mass of cancerous tissue called a tumor that invades and destroys normal adjacent tissues. The term tumour refers to an abnormal growth or mass. Tumours can be cancerous or noncancerous (1).
Taking different vitamins, minerals, macronutrients, herbs, and extracts as supplements for cancer, are increasingly used in integrative medicine which helps in strengthen the immune system and may ease the side effects during chemotherapy and radiation (2).
Cancer is often associated with a constellation of responses which together lead to cachexia. The term cachexia defined as a complex metabolic syndrome characterised by loss of muscle. Muscle loss is more rapid in cancer patients. The rate of muscle protein synthesis has been reduced in patients (3).
Life On Prote-Life has Protein Isolate, Glutamic Acid, Colostrum, Green Tea Extract, Lycopene, DHA, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Iron, Zinc, Manganese, Magnesium, Calcium, Iodine, Flax Seed, Selenium, Evening Primrose in its formulation in which protein isolate which helps in maintenance of muscle mass to improving outcome and quality of life in cancer patients. It also stimulates muscle protein synthesis. Cancer patient's normal dietary intake has minimal effects on muscle protein synthesis (3).
Proteins are essential nutrients for the human body, it is a nutrient that the body needs to grow and maintain itself (10).
They are one of the building blocks of body tissue, and can also serve as a fuel source. As a fuel, proteins contain 4 kcal per gram (11).
Proteins are polymer chains made of Amino Acids linked together by peptide bonds. During human digestion, proteins are broken down in the stomach to smaller polypeptide chains by Hydrochloric Acid and protease actions. This is crucial for the synthesis of the essential Amino Acids that cannot be biosynthesised by the body (12).
Weight loss is common amongst people with cancer and is often the first noticeable sign of the disease. As many as 40% of people with cancer report unexplained weight loss at the time of diagnosis, and up to 80% of people with advanced cancer experience weight loss (13).
Life On Prote-Life has Glutamic acid in its formulation. Depletion of glutamine occurs in cancer patients as cancer cells consume glutamine at large scale that is why there is lack of glutamine in the skeletal muscle. Glutamine plays very important roles in tumor cell. It acts as a nitrogen donor in the nucleotide and Amino acid biosynthesis. Glutamine helps in the uptake of essential Amino acid and it maintains the activation of TOR kinase (4).
L-Glutamic acid is converted into L-Glutamine by L-Glutamine Synthetase. L-Glutamine biosynthesise purines and pyrimidines by contributing 3- and 9-nitrogen groups of purine bases, 2-amino group of guanine, 3-nitrogen group and amino group of cytosine which are the bases of DNA and RNA. L-Glutamine cannot be synthesised in neoplastic cells due to the lower reactivity of L-Glutamine synthetase. Thus an antagonist of this enzyme can interfere with the metabolic process of L-Glutamine and act as anticancer agents. Patients suffering from cancer often develop Glutamine depletion in the muscles due to uptake by tumors and chronic protein metabolism (4).
Life On Prote-Life has green tea extract which acts as anticancer agent. Green tea contains substances called polyphenols, which contribute to its anti-cancer activity. Catechin epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), it interferes with several of the processes involved in cell replication, causing tumor cell death (apoptosis). It also slows the formation of blood vessels around tumors. Epigallocatechin (ECG), another polyphenol, stops leukemic cells from multiplying in laboratory studies. As a proven antioxidant, green tea extract may repair cell damage.
Life On Prote-Life has Lycopene which acts as antioxidant. Lycopene is a natural pigment that is produced by plants and microorganisms. It acts as an antioxidant and affects the way cells grow and communicate with each other. Lycopene may help in slowing and reducing cancer cell growth, preventing DNA damage, and enhancing enzymes that break down cancer-causing cells (6).
Life On Prote-Life has Colostrum which works as an immune booster it is rich in antibodies. It provides passive immunity. Colostrum contains high amount of proteins, immunoglobulin, lactoferrin and growth factors which are essential for specific functions. Colostrum components like antimicrobial factors, immunoglobulin and growth factor not only benefits physically active person but also used in the treatment of autoimmune disorders while antimicrobial factors provide passive immunity and protection against infections. Lactoferrin, has been investigated as novel therapeutic and it also has anticarcinogenic properties against colon and other cancers (7).
DHA was found to inhibit growth of human colon carcinoma cell, DHA was shown to increase the efficacy of chemotherapy in prostate cancer cells. DHA improves memory, can slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease (9).
Life On Prote-Life is packed with essential Vitamins, Minerals, Macro nutrients, and plant extracts which may be benefiting the cancer patients in some way or the other.
